Plan cheaply before building with Replit

40 hours and $106 for a game prototype · Reddit r/replit · u/curiousjiayi · Oct 2025

A builder shares what worked: discuss architecture with a cheap planning mode first, then build one module at a time instead of handing over a full spec.

Lesson

Use plan or chat mode (cheaper) to think, and build one central piece first.

Fix prompt

Copy this into your own AI tool (Cursor, Lovable, Claude Code, Bolt…). It's general guidance written by us. Review what the AI suggests before applying it.

I'm new to building with Replit. Be my patient teacher. 1) Look at my project and explain its structure in plain English: what each main folder and file does. 2) Teach me the 5 basics I most need right now (e.g. git commits and branches, env vars, how deploys work, reading an error message, backups), each with one tiny exercise in my project. 3) Suggest a small next feature that's a good learning step, and how to ask you for it in small, testable pieces. Don't change code without asking me first.
